SafeMaps
Overview:
The brief for this project was to think about the problem with current cities from the perspective of those who live there or those who visit, think about our own past experiences and what opportunities could Smart City technologies offer to improve these experiences?
Challenge:
The challenge was to make the process of getting home from a night out for university students both safer and quicker.
Duration: 3 Months
Roles:
As a group - Research our chosen challenge to find the paint points of our target users and generate our target user persona.
As an individual - Use the research from the group phase of the project to create a high-fidelity app prototype.
Goals:
- Inform the user of safer routes such as those that well-lit.
- Offer the user the quickest route home without sacrificing safety as well following routes with sufficient footfall.
- Reassure primary and secondary users by allowing them to call and alarm trusted contacts quickly if the are feeling unsafe.
- Connect to the speakerphone and/or camera to speak to a trusted contact live whilst on their journey.
- Have an active camera and voice recording operating throughout the journey for reassurance and evidence in case of an incident.

The Research Process
As a group we generated an abundance of research that we could use to ultimately find the pain points of our target users. To do this we used Secondary Research, Assumption Mapping, Primary Research and Experience Mapping to find our Key Insights which we later reframed to generate our Task and Experience Goals.

We then applied the How Might We? model to discover ways of eliminating the Pain Points users were experiencing by using the features in our concept. Finally we gathered all of the data we had collected and after analysing it we identified our main user Pain Points as well as our Persona, along with forming our concept statement:
"The SafeMaps app uses smart city data and community sourced information to recommend the safest route home to the user by offering them the quickest, safest and most well-lit routes available."
Persona
Initial Wireframes
After a site map was created using the features discovered from the Persona set of initial wireframes were created. After using testing with the initial wireframes were completed a new set of wireframes were produced, resolving the key issues of the previous wireframes.
Iteration and Reflection
After user testing with the initial wireframes were completed, a new set of wireframes were produced, resolving the key issues of the previous wireframes. After evaluating and reflecting on the design journey so far, I was then ready to create the final high-fidelity screens.
